Labengki electricity is mostly generator power from evening until morning: operator guide labengkisombori.com gives 18:00 to 06:00, while a 2018 traveller report gave only 18:00 to 22:00 on Little Labengki. Telkomsel is the network most often named, signal is patchy at best, and operator Asik Travel advises carrying cash from Kendari because there is no ATM beyond the city.

When is Labengki electricity available?

Plan for overnight generator power, and treat daytime power as a bonus. Operator guide labengkisombori.com says power runs on generators from 18:00 to 06:00 and tells visitors to charge overnight and carry a power bank. The World Travel Guy reports the same hours at Labengki Beach Huts on Labengki Besar, a basic property. The travel blog Jonny Melon reported a much shorter evening in 2018, from 18:00 to 22:00, on Little Labengki. Our overview of Labengki explains how the two main islands fit together.

The reports come from different dates and different places, so the older figure should not be read as simply wrong. The reported exception is Labengki Nirwana Resort, which The World Travel Guy describes as having 24-hour electricity. That is a traveller's account of a third-party property, so if round-the-clock power matters for medical equipment or work, get the host's own answer in writing. The where to stay on Labengki page sets out the options.

Is there phone signal or Wi-Fi?

Expect signal in places and at times, with no guarantee. Three sources describe three different experiences on the Labengki side. Asik Travel calls it patchy. The World Travel Guy reports decent Telkomsel service at the beach huts. Jonny Melon found it in 2018 only at the top of the lighthouse. All three can be true where and when they were written.

Wi-Fi has less evidence still. The one direct statement is Jonny Melon's from 2018: no Wi-Fi on the island. Ask the host, since a resort may run its own connection. If you must stay reachable for work, treat Labengki as a place where you cannot count on a video call or an upload. Tell colleagues in advance that you will be out of contact, and schedule anything important for when you are back in Kendari. Remote working from a homestay would be a gamble.

Which SIM works?

Telkomsel is the only network these reports name. Labengkisombori.com says it is the network that works and that other SIMs largely do not, and both traveller accounts above mention it too. Having the right SIM is necessary but gives no assurance of a signal where you happen to be. Sort it out before you leave the city, not at the harbour; the Kendari stopover page deals with what to do there. If your phone is locked or your home roaming partner is another network, check that before the trip.

Is there an ATM on the islands?

Plan as if there is none. The sources conflict here, and the cautious answer costs you little. Asik Travel says there is no ATM once you leave the city and advises carrying cash for the trip. The Jadesta listing, the Ministry of Tourism's portal, shows ATMs under village facilities. Official standing does not settle a practical question about a machine that may be out of order, out of notes or somewhere else, so do not plan a trip on the strength of that entry. If you see one, treat it as luck.

The same goes for cards. Card acceptance at Labengki stops is not reported, so a resort quote is the place to ask. How much cash to withdraw has no published answer. A sensible method is to list everything your written offer says is paid on the spot, add your own spending, then add a margin for a lost day or a changed boat. Carry small notes where you can, and split the money between bags. Landings are another reason to pack it properly, since labengkisombori.com says most are wet. A dry bag protects cash and phone alike.

Can you pay by QR code?

Sometimes, on the Labengki Kecil side, and not as your only plan. ANTARA reports Bank Indonesia digitising payments at 26 homestays in Labengki Kecil in 2023 and naming it the first QRIS tourism village in the province. That was the position when it was reported, so do not assume every host still accepts it.

No source here says how it works without signal or with a foreign bank app, so ask your host and your bank, and carry cash. The Labengki Kecil village page has more on the homestays.

What is different on Sombori?

Almost everything gets harder. Asik Travel says phone signal is mostly absent around Sombori, and The World Travel Guy reports no cell service there at all. An article on the tax directorate's site, dated 2019, says electricity at Mbokita came only at night from a diesel generator when the writers visited. It also reports fresh water as scarce, drawn from a well at Laroenai about three hours away by rowing boat. That account is old and specific to one village, but it shows that a trip to the Sombori side should not assume Labengki's arrangements. The Mbokita village page has more. Bring your own water plan and settle any pickup arrangement before you lose signal, since you may not be able to change it from there.

What should you sort out before leaving Kendari?

  1. Get a Telkomsel SIM working and test it.
  2. Withdraw your cash, in small notes if you can get them.
  3. Carry a charged power bank, plus a spare for cameras; a multi-port charger makes the overnight window go further.
  4. Download maps, tickets and your written offer so they work offline.
  5. Pack a dry bag for cash, phone and documents.
  6. Give someone at home your dates, your host's name and the day you expect to be back in signal.

What else do readers ask about power and signal?

Is there Wi-Fi on Labengki?

Do not count on it. The one direct report, from Jonny Melon in 2018, found no Wi-Fi on the island. A host may have its own connection, so ask before you book.

How do I reach the desk?

Ask before you go, while you still have a signal: WhatsApp +62 811-3941-4563 or bd@juaraholding.com. If you need steady power or a connection for a specific reason, say so in your first message. Any arrangement counts only once it appears in a written offer.
