This Labengki Island FAQ gives short, sourced answers on location, access, trip length, places to sleep, season, money and rules. Labengki lies in North Konawe, Southeast Sulawesi, and is reachable only by sea according to the Ministry of Tourism's Jadesta listing. Answers name their sources where they use one and point to the page with the detail.
Where is Labengki and how do you get there?
In Southeast Sulawesi. Jadesta puts the tourism village in Lasolo Kepulauan district, North Konawe Regency (Konawe Utara). There are two islands, by the account of Voyage in Style: little Labengki Kecil with its fishing village, and the much larger, steep-sided Labengki Besar.
Sombori is a separate place in a separate province. Asik Travel places it about 20 km to the north in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, and The World Travel Guy also places it in Central Sulawesi. Some travel blogs put it in Southeast Sulawesi, which is worth knowing when official tourism pages seem not to mention it.
For most visitors the route starts at Haluoleo Airport (KDI), which Wikipedia describes as a domestic airport serving Kendari. According to Asik Travel, most operators then leave from Tanasa, about 40 minutes by road, with about two and a half hours on a wooden boat. The same operator lists Sawa, Lasolo and Kendari city harbour as other departure points. Jadesta gives about two hours from Kendari dock, so published times conflict, and our Kendari to Labengki route guide sets them side by side. For the longer picture of the trip, read the Labengki Island overview.
Two planning facts follow, both from Asik Travel: crossings are by chartered or tour boat, and its morning Kendari pickup cannot be met by a same-day flight.
How long should a trip be?
Longer than the map suggests. Asik Travel rejects a day trip, considers two days poor value for the time spent moving, and prefers four days as an easier pace. It sells these trips, so weigh that, but the crossing times support the point. Our Labengki Sombori itinerary guide compares lengths.
The price table on this page shows published figures for three-day trips at different group sizes, along with a shared open trip. Haraduta limits its open-trip price to Indonesian citizens, and it cancels or reprices a departure that misses its quota. Foreign visitors should read that row with care and compare tour formats before relying on it.
Where can you sleep?
On Labengki, in most published plans. Sombori has just a few village homestays and no resort or hotel, by Asik Travel's account, and the operator knows of no Sombori package that overnights anywhere but Labengki. The price table includes a Jadesta homestay listing. This guide does not rate properties. The options are set out in where to stay on Labengki.
When should you go?
Sources do not agree on one answer. For Kendari, Weather Spark marks September as driest and May as wettest, with air mostly at 74 to 90 F and the sea at 82 to 85 F. Those are modelled numbers for the city, not readings from the islands. Asik Travel's calmer, drier window runs around April to October, and it says no month has ever stopped its trips outright.
Note the overlap: May falls inside the operator's calmer window and is also Weather Spark's wettest month. Our guide to the best time to visit Labengki takes this further. Nobody can promise a calm crossing in any given week.
What should you bring in cash and gear?
Assume the islands will not supply what you forgot. The table gives the main points, and our page on power, signal and cash has the fuller picture.
| Item | What is reported | Source | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cash | No ATM once you leave the city. Jadesta, however, lists "ATMs" under village facilities | Asik Travel; Jadesta | Plan for none and withdraw in Kendari |
| Power | Generators overnight, 18:00 to 06:00 | labengkisombori.com | Charge at night, carry a power bank |
| Phone signal | Patchy on Labengki, mostly absent around Sombori | Asik Travel | Tell family before you leave |
| SIM card | Telkomsel works; other SIMs largely do not | labengkisombori.com | Sort it out in Kendari |
| English | Scarce in the villages and among most people in Kendari | The World Travel Guy | Save an offline translator |
Gear depends on what the trip is. labengkisombori.com describes the area as a karst, cave and lagoon trip with some snorkelling attached, and says it is no dedicated dive destination. Ask in advance which snorkel gear is supplied, and read our snorkelling guide before deciding what to pack.
Which rules apply in the water and for visas?
On the reef. Look, but keep your hands and feet off: that is Asik Travel's instruction for the shallow clam reef at Labengki Kecil, where it says a fee or donation may be asked. Jadesta advertises Kimaboe clams for snorkellers and divers, which is a listing and not a promise of a sighting.
The park. The BKSDA Sultra blog describes Teluk Lasolo as a marine nature park set up by decree in June 1999. Our Teluk Lasolo page has its size and history. Ask your provider what applies where you will stop.
Drones. One operator's summary of the drone position is on our Love Bay page. It comes second-hand, so read the current national rules before you fly.
Visas. Indonesia's immigration e-visa site says the Visitor Visa is single-entry, for a 30-day stay and valid for tourism. The immigration FAQ asks for a passport valid at least six months and a return or onward ticket. The fee is in the price table, and card fees may be added. Rules change, so read both official pages for your nationality before you book.
Is there an entrance fee or village levy at Labengki?
A fee may apply, but no official tariff is published in these accounts. A 2023 article in the journal SALAM says Labengki Village Regulation No. 2 of 2021 on tourism management covers homestay tariffs and a village levy. The article does not reproduce the rates. Jelajah Sultra, a Kendari trip seller, wrote in 2017 of an entry ticket paid per trip at Labengki. For Sombori it described a per-person levy, a compulsory local guide and a per-boat charge, and it advised keeping your ticket so the money reaches the village fund. That account is years old. Sulawesi Eco Adventure and Come2Indonesia both list entrance fees in their trips, so ask what yours covers and ask for a ticket when you pay.
Which published prices did we check?
Third-party listings and official fees, each with its source and the month we checked it. These are not our prices or offers. Rates change and some open trips are listed for Indonesian citizens only; check the source before you rely on a figure.
| Item | Published price | Source | Checked |

What do people also ask about Labengki?
What should I know before going to Labengki?
Three things shape most plans: access by sea only, charter or tour boats according to Asik Travel, and little English in the villages according to The World Travel Guy. Build in a night in Kendari before the boat.
What should I pack for Labengki and Sombori?
Cash from Kendari, a power bank, a Telkomsel SIM on the advice of labengkisombori.com, and an offline translator. Boat-day items such as seasickness tablets and earplugs are covered on the Kendari to Labengki page.
Do I need a visa to visit Labengki?
Visa rules are national, not specific to the island. Indonesia describes a single-entry Visitor Visa for a 30-day tourist stay, and you should check the official immigration pages for your nationality before booking anything.
Do you need a permit to visit Labengki?
Ask your provider in writing what is required and who arranges it, because this guide has no official visitor permit rule to cite for Labengki or Sombori. Flying a drone is a separate question, covered above.
Is there an entrance fee for Labengki?
One may apply, but no official tariff is published in these accounts. Village Regulation 2 of 2021 is reported to cover a levy, Jadesta figures are listings and a fee or donation may apply at the clam reef. Ask what your trip covers.
Is Labengki like Raja Ampat for diving?
Asik Travel makes the comparison itself and concedes the point: similar karst, but Raja Ampat has the richer reefs and the better dive setup. If diving is the whole point of your trip, read that as a warning from an operator working in this area.
